Tesla Cybertruck prototype shows up waving a jumbo windshield wiper

Recent drone footage on YouTube shows a pre-production Tesla Cybertruck running laps on the proving grounds near the automaker’s California factory, with a ridiculously oversized windshield wiper attached to the front.

The length of the wiper brush actually appears adequate considering the size of the windshield itself, but it still looks out-of-place on a road car. What’s perhaps worse, its parking spot is near the left a-pillar, which means it stays within the driver’s sight all the time and impairs visibility.

In a Twitter post commenting on the video leak, Tesla CEO Elon Musk admitted the wiper was his greatest concern at that time. He said it would be great to be able to fold it down into the trunk through a hatch, but a solution like that would be overly complex.

As you can also see, the newer prototype has conventional side mirrors instead of video cameras. Musk pointed out that car manufacturers were legally obligated to install the mirrors in North America, but customers were free to swap them out for cameras post-purchase. He did not say that OEM cameras would be available at a premium, but this was the impression.

Finally, the latest Cybertruck revision sports mundane-looking headlights mounted far lower than the single LED bar on the original concept. We have no comment on this change, but it also looks like something legislation would require.

In recent news, it emerged that the Cybertruck would first be delivered as a four-motor pickup with 4WS and other high-end features.
