Oops, I Did It Again: Musk brings a hilariously flawed Cybertruck to a launch event

The Tesla Cybertruck Concept will be turning three years old this year, but the production version of it has yet to show up. The automaker claims it will reach the market in 2023 and be made at the just-opened Giga Texas factory in Austin. Speaking of which…

The newest Gigafactory cost Elon Musk more than a billion USD to build and celebrated its opening this weekend. Tesla CEO attended the ceremony along with a host of guests who were given an opportunity to talk with Musk and check out the EV maker’s product lineup. This is where things went askew – quite literally, too.

No one expected to witness a production-ready Cybertruck at the factory opening event (we did not, at any rate), but the early prototype that Tesla brought there was a pain to look at. Visitors to the site reported huge gaps between panels and signs of wear-and-tear all around the bodywork. To make matters worse, one of the side mirrors was missing a part of its housing.

As infamous as Tesla already is for build quality issues, the EV maker could at least do a decent job cobbling up a mock-up of a truck together – for the sake of PR, of nothing else. Apparently, it was not a priority.
