Elon Musk has bad news for all Tesla enthusiasts out there waiting for their Cybertruck to be produced and delivered at last: at the latest shareholders’ meeting, the CEO admitted that the pickup would be quite different from the concept and cost more, too.
The Cybertruck prototype debuted a few years ago, and much has changed since then, Musk said. Among other things, he blamed higher-than-expected inflation rates. Just how much they are going to affect the pricing model of the Cybertruck remains to be revealed, but it is clear that the single-motor entry spec is not going to cost you $39,900 like originally promised.
The maxed-out Cybertruck had been previously estimated at $69,900. What the actual figures will be is still a mystery, and we would be better off waiting for the production to begin, rather than engaging in pointless guesswork. The assembly lines are expected to start in 2023.
