One of the world’s first Tesla Cybertruck production units presold for $0.4M

The famous Petersen Automotive Museum has auctioned off one of the first Tesla Cybertrucks scheduled for production in late 2023. You read that right: someone has paid U.S. $400,000 for a vehicle that has yet to be assembled.

The auction entrance fee for all participants was $1,750. Buying out the entire table cost $17,500–30,000. A dinner and an entertainment show were included in the program with Jay Leno for the host.

No detailed specifications of the Cybertruck have been revealed. It also appears that the buyer could just be purchasing a production slot, and that they would have to place a proper order for the car itself later – complete with color, trim and other custom options.

Perhaps most importantly, we are unaware of any guarantees that the VIN code of the truck would be ending in 001 – the auction was for ‘one of the first’ production units, not the very first one.

According to Tesla, it has amassed nearly 2,000,000 Cybertruck preorders by now.
