Tesla Cybertruck to get an extra battery pack option

There is no avoiding it: the just-revealed Tesla Cybertruck has fallen flat in a number of ways for a number of fans, the range being among the main gripes. Contrary to Elon Musk’s original promise to give it well over 500 miles (805 km) of range, the truck debuted with only 340 miles (547 km) available in the longest-range version. A band-aid solution is coming soon, though.

According to Motor1 quoting Tesla VP Andrew Baglino, the company is already working on releasing an external battery accessory to extend the range. The company is apparently disinterested in making the Cybertruck a range-extender/serial hybrid (such cars use an internal combustion engine as a power generator for the main motor setup).

Instead, all customers will be able to opt for a compact-sized extra battery pack. According to Baglino, it will slot right in the bed next to the cab partition and extend the range of the dual-motor version to roughly 465 miles (750 km). In turn, the three-motor Cyberbeast flagship will be able to cover 450 miles (724 km) instead of its standard 320 mi (515 km).

When he revealed the Cybertruck four years ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk highlighted the 500-mile range as one of its main selling points. Such a modification might go on sale someday in the future.
