Shortly after revealing its long-overdue Cybertruck pickup, Tesla Inc. has arranged for a series of tests to prove the stability of its bulletproof stainless-steel bodywork. The truck has withstood sustained fire from three different weapons, which is more than any other mass-produced car can handle, InsideEVs claims.
The test crew subjected the Cybertruck to the 45-caliber Tommy Gun fire, Glock 9mm shots and rapid fire from the 9mm MP5-SD automatic pistol. The bullets left multiple dents, but not a single one penetrated the cabin.
Tesla never claimed that larger-caliber firearms packing more power would be stopped as easily. In fact, their absence in the test footage implies that they probably penetrate the panels. Even so, the Cybertruck still seems to be the world’s most bulletproof production car with no added armor layers. This is made possible by its thick steel panels: while most stainless-steel cars produced throughout the years had used metal sheets only 0.7–1 millimeter thick, the Cybertruck received heavier, sturdier 3mm sheets.
