The Tesla online store has added a new item to its stock – a $1,500 Cybertruck replica that sends 500 watts of power to the wheels and is targeted towards children.
Compared to its big brother (see video), the kid car lacks a roof or even a truck bed – there is an adjustable bench seat in its place. At the same time, it does have a similar-looking steering wheel and fully functional head- and taillights. It can take two children aged 6–12 on board, as long as they weigh under 70 kilos (154 pounds) together.
The motor peaks at 0.5 kW, but normally churns out just 0.35 kW. The battery is large enough for 20 kilometers (~12 miles) of driving. There is a switch on board that lets you select an acceleration limit – 8 or 16 km/h (5 or 10 mph, respectively). In any case, the car will not go faster than 3 km/h (2 mph) in reverse.
You can already leave a pre-order, but the shipments are not expected to start until late December. Note the ‘expected’ part: Tesla openly warns that the actual delivery may come in time for Christmas, and we are somehow inclined to believe it.
