The Tesla Cybertruck is officially in production now, and the automaker has decided to use this opportunity to re-check its reservations. Even if you have already made an advance payment for your electric pickup, the company wants you to throw in another $1,000 to confirm your intention, Carscoops reports.
Since Tesla has no PR department, the news reached us through the social media. A number of Cybertruck buyers who put in $100 with their orders received e-mails from the carmaker asking for another $1,000 as a statement of intent.
Before you pay up, you will be taken to the configurator app and will be able to choose your desired trim level and total price. Only when you confirm and finalize your order will you have to pay the $1,000 deposit.
Once the transaction is confirmed, your early reservation will become a full-fledged order. The money thus far paid will be deducted from the total price, but will not be refunded anymore if you decide to cancel your purchase.
Some of the people who pre-ordered the Cybertruck also received messages from Tesla saying they could take delivery of them before the end of the year, but only as long as they switch their orders to the Foundation Edition priced from $120,000 to $135,000. Not having to wait until 2024 comes at a $20,000–35,000 premium over the base price of the tri-motor Cyberbeast modification.
