Reports: Tesla may be intentionally limiting Cybertruck production

Wall Street experts believe that Elon Musk’s car company may be interested in downsizing the production volumes of its long-overdue Cybertruck pickup so that the customer interest towards it never wanes and the prices stay high for years, Business Insider claims.

Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Bernstein and Wedbush have all provided their Cybertruck production volume forecasts for the study. On average, these companies expect Tesla to produce just 48,500 units in 2024, followed by anything between 78,000 and 230,000 units in 2025.

Some observers believe that the company’s Gigafactory Texas is well capable of ramping up the production numbers. However, not doing so keeps the supply short and the hype going, resulting in much higher prices.

For its own part, Tesla has said nothing about its intended production volumes for the next two years. The only thing that’s official is that the Gigafactory Texas will not reach its nominal production capacity until 2025.

As always, such reports should be taken with a grain of salt. Everything suggests that the demand for the Cybertruck is solid enough not to require any artificial boosting. By the end of November, the company had over 2.1 million preorders on its hands, each made against a $100 deposit.
