Tesla has posted a video to silence the skeptics believing that its all-electric pickup will struggle in off-road situations. The short clip shows the vehicle crawl its way through the Hell’s Gate, one of the world’s most popular and dangerous destinations for overlanding enthusiasts. The description highlights that it wore its standard tires to the test.
The Hell’s Gate looks like a V-shaped opening in between rocky formations in Mohave Desert. Its walls are riddled with protruding sharp stones, and the climb as steep as 30 degrees throughout most of the ascent, with some 45-degree slopes along the way. A layer of sand that keeps piling up on the rocks due to the constant desert wind makes traversal extremely challenging even for the best-equipped off-roaders.
The Cybertruck in the video appears to fare just fine, though. Its on-board electronics adequately deal with all the skidding, swaying and cross-axling. There are times when the bulky truck barely squeezes in between the rocky walls, but it still emerges unscathed as it reaches the top.
Tesla points out in the description that the truck shown is a three-motor Cyberbeast version rated at 857 PS (845 hp / 630 kW). Equipped like this, the truck sprints 0-96.6 km/h (0-60 mph) in 2.6 seconds.
