Contrary to the fantasies voiced by Elon Musk in numerous interviews, the eccentric Tesla Cybertruck shipped without certified body armor or the ability to traverse rivers. Two aftermarket companies, Archimedes Defense and Up.Fit, joined efforts to deliver on these promises.
Right now, the duo is developing as many as three upgrade packages for the Cybertruck, each with a clear purpose in mind. The first one is called Sting Baja and mounts an AMP Drive G125TM jet engine onto the frunk of the electric truck, letting it regain power at up to 125 kilowatts. It accepts diesel, biofuel and jet fuel, so firing it up should be easy no matter where the owners may get stranded with zero charge.
The same package is expected to come with an optional body kit from Unplugged Performance and a special amphibious kit. These aren’t very detailed at the moment.
Next up is the Sting Protector, a stainless-steel armoring upgrade designed to help the truck withstand 7.62mm automatic rifle fire. The companies avoid mentioning any specific armoring standards and don’t talk about added weight, saying only that the owners would be able to install and remove the panels quickly.
Rounding off the list is the Sting APC, a package similar to the one mentioned above but with added protection against homemade explosive devices and landmines. It adds ceramic reinforcements to the steel panels and allegedly withstands fire from a 14.5mm-caliber mounted heavy gun. The only caveat is that it is a tad too heavy for the Cybertruck to haul around, so the power generator is included as a prerequisite.
It is still unknown when these options may ship and how much they may cost.
