$2k can make your Tesla Model 3 go faster

Tesla has launched an after-sale upgrade for all of its Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range cars. The option is available in the configurator applet on the company’s U.S. website and comes as an OTA software update.

Once installed, it reduces the 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint time by half a second (from 4.4 s to 3.9 s). The asking price is a hefty $2000, but it isn’t too much given the $48,990 starting price tag of the Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range. In its topmost version called Performance, the Model 3 sprints in 3.2 seconds, but has less range and costs $8000 more.

At the time of writing, the option was still missing from the company’s European websites. The Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range needs 4.6 seconds to hit 100 km/h in its Europe specification, so we can expect the Acceleration Boost to reduce this time to 4.1 s.

You will need to update your in-car software to the latest version (2019.40.2) in order to install the upgrade.
