Tom Zhu, CEO of Tesla Motors China, revealed in a recent interview that a particularly affordable electric car announced by Elon Musk two and a half years ago would soon hit the asphalt and eventually go into production.
The still unnamed hatchback utilizes the Model 3 platform and should come in at around $25,000 USD. The first prototypes should come out as early as 2021, and the entire development and production process will be localized in China.
Tesla is currently constructing a research center next to its Gigafactory in Shanghai. Once out, the production cars will ship to all corners of the world.
