According to Elektrek, a number of Tesla customers who ordered Model 3 or Model Y cars last week found them inexplicably lacking USB sockets. The company apparently provided no explanation or discounts – in fact, the Model Y now costs more than ever, probably in anticipation of the new EV tax deductions.
Numerous complaints have been recorded from owners, who said their EVs lacked USB-C ports compared to the reference model. Most reported ports missing from the center console, but one buyer complained about having no passenger USBs, either. Some said they were also unable to locate wireless charging pads in their vehicles.
At a glance, the dreaded semiconductor crisis is to blame for the issues. Tesla has failed to produce an official explanation so far, but some buyers said they were warned about the issues with their cars in advance (others were not). Those who got the warning were told to schedule a service station appointment next month for the ports to be installed retroactively when they become available. Interestingly, some owners were able to receive their high- and top-spec Teslas exactly as ordered.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y has seen its eighth price hike in 2021, gaining another $1,000. The previous price bump affected the Model 3 and Model Y only a month ago.
