NHTSA is looking into Tesla Inc. after receiving numerous reports about the marque’s cars suddenly applying their autonomous emergency brakes for no apparent reason.
The ADAS feature sometimes erroneously triggers on some Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, causing them to lose speed and risk a collision. The administration says it received 354 complaints about this issue so far. Some drivers reported running into trouble on speedways due to it.
In the pending investigation, the NHTSA will be checking around 416,000 vehicles produced this year and the last.
