Ever since it arrived, the Tesla Model S Plaid has been a bit of a party pooper for drag racing enthusiasts everywhere. It might struggle on a challenging track with many curves, but in straight-line acceleration it is second to none. Or is it? The owner of this tuned McLaren 765LT wanted to know for sure.
Low curb weight and 765 PS (755 hp / 563 kW) straight from the factory make the British supercar fast enough to outpace some hypercars at launch. Making things even more exciting is the fact that this example was tuned to 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW) to be on par with the Tesla in raw power output.
Big differences remain elsewhere, though. On the one hand, the Model S has the advantage of ridiculous instant torque. On the other hand, the McLaren weighs more than 800 kilos (1,760 pounds) less than its rival.
DragTimes made it four races this time around. The first attempt saw the petrol car driver fumble the start completely, apparently because launch control decided to call it a day. The rest of the showdown was very hot and tense, though, with both drivers scoring at least one victory. In the end, though, the winner was too apparent to ignore. Which one do you think it was?
