Tesla drops prices for the 6th time since the beginning of the year

Tesla has once again slashed its prices in the United States, making the Model 3 and Model Y more affordable than before. Even the relatively recent base spec of the Model Y has been discounted for what Reuters believes is the sixth price revision in a row since the start of 2023.

The Model Y shed $3,000 and now can be ordered starting from $46,990. The entry-level Model 3 lost $2,000 and now costs from $39,990. In a related move from earlier, Tesla dropped its pricing on a number of markets at once, including Europe and China, with certain modifications losing as much as 20 percent of their list price.

How the automaker achieves this is anybody’s guess. One theory is that the company bets on selling more units to compensate for the lack of margins by the sheer volume sold. With the EV marking becoming increasingly competitive, this could be one way of staying relevant.
