Tesla employees working at Gigafactory Shanghai have debunked the rumors that the next version of the Model 3 was scheduled for production from June 1 this year, Yicai is reporting. Car spotters have already seen the new sedan running around in camo.
According to InsideEVs, the automaker has been preparing the new Model 3 for launch for around a year now, referring to it in-house as “Project Highland”. Tesla representatives have denied these allegations so far and even stressed that the company did not do “facelifts”, preferring to release minor updates and improvements instead. This included both hardware and software upgrades, the latter obtainable over-the-air.
The first images showing what looked like a Model 3 sedan facelift went online in late 2022. Back then, unofficial sources claimed the EV would get revised looks and better Autopilot tech.
In mid-April, a single pic of a partly covered Model 3 cropped up online. The person who snapped the photo supposed it was an unwrapped pre-production car. In addition to a different-looking bumper, it had new headlights. At the same time, rumors started spreading that this version of the car was on track to mass production in China this fall.
