Car spotters have filmed a video of an unofficial showdown between a heavily modded Tesla Model S and a Porsche Taycan at the Nürburgring. Elon Musk’s pet EV did not fare well.
As you may remember, Tesla CEO had previously announced that its Model S beat the record of the Porsche Taycan by twenty seconds, finishing the North Loop in 7 minutes 20 seconds. Allegedly, this became possible thanks to the new powertrain design called ‘P100D+ Plaid’. Later on, Musk said the company would be able to shave another 15 seconds off the lap time with a couple more upgrades. As the spy video testifies, though, the battery-powered prototype car just broke down in the middle of the race.
Watch the video to witness the Model S standing motionless while the Taycan zaps past, and ultimately being picked up by a tow truck.
The company has already announced that it would take a month-long pause in the tests to sort things out. It seems like the breakdown was the main reason for this decision.
