According to a number of U.S. media citing anonymous Tesla sources, the company is working hard on improving its S and X models – so hard, in fact, that new production capacities are required to carry out the changes.
The new triple-motor setup that premiered on a pre-production Model S in 2019 (see the gallery and the video) churns out 772 hp (576 kW) and 931 Nm (687 lb-ft) of torque. This makes it superior to all the currently available Tesla powertrains.
Another leak claims that the updated cars will benefit from larger and longer-lasting traction batteries. Elon Musk revealed one such battery prototype a year ago, stating that you could cover a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) on a battery like this before it would need replacement.
One final rumor is a bit unclear, stating that a “palladium body” was under development for the Model S and Model X. What this could specifically refer to remains unknown, because palladium as a metal does not appear viable in car manufacturing. Perhaps both EVs will wind up with further aerodynamic improvements, including the previously seen large rear wing and diffuser.
