Tesla Model S, Model X get suspension/Autopilot updates via software

Tesla keeps polishing the electronic systems of its vehicle range. The Model S liftback has gained software-based range enhancements twice since the start of 2020 (390 miles in February, 402 miles in June), as well as an acceleration boost. The Model X has also received some love, and now, an update has been announced that can improve suspension and self-driving.

The manufacturer claims that the new software – which is already available for downloading – smooths out the shock absorber movements, improves cornering performance and enables the creation of location-aware ride height presets. The latter means that you can pretty much mark the bumpy road to your suburban residence on the map, and the car will lift itself upon approaching it.

Major changes are also coming to the Autopilot feature that should hopefully make it far more versatile. Among other things, it is announced that Tesla cars will learn to detect potholes in advance and drive around them.

The Autopilot update is coming up in between six to ten weeks. The company reports that Elon Musk himself is currently test-driving a pre-production version of the software using his personal car.
