Tesla started shipping the facelifted Model S last week, and reviews are already pouring in criticizing it for the gimmicky yoke-shaped steering wheel design that can be uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst.
One of the videos posted so far suggests that changing the grip on the yoke wheel can be a daunting task when turning around, for example. The driver has to keep an eye on the wheel itself at all times to avoid grasping away at clean air where there is no rim to grip.
Altering gear transfer ratios might have helped Tesla to keep the car in control, but the ratios stay the same as before, when the wheel was round.
The first spy photos starring a yoke-wheeled Tesla Model S were made in San Francisco in March this year. Since then, various authorities throughout the United States have voiced their concerns about such a controversial design decision – unfortunately, we are not aware of any decisions reached.
