Tesla Model S wins unofficial race setting new record

A Tesla Model S just set a new high score in the EV subcategory of Cannonball Run, a transcontinental race held in the United States, having covered the entire distance in 42 hours 17 minutes.

The Model S dethroned the Porsche Taycan 4S by coming to the finish line more than two hours earlier. The run began in New York and ended in Los Angeles, as usual. Since the 1970s, the race has only one hard rule, and that is that all participant cars must use their own drivetrains to move (no trailers, towing, transporting etc.). Other than that, participants are free to choose the route, the aftermarket upgrades and the crew.

Ryan Levenson and Josh Allan won the Cannonball Run this time around. The former used to be employed at Tesla and later founded The Kilowatts, a battery car rental service. By their participation, the duo wanted to promote EVs and show just how advanced the charging station network was in North America.

Levenson had originally intended to be driving his own brand-new Tesla, but its delivery was pushed back several months, so he defaulted to a 2021 Model S Long Range that he rented from a private individual.

The car was stock except only for aerodynamically optimized 19-inch rims replacing OEM 21-inch ones.
