Taiwanese Tesla car owners are facing an increasing number of issues with traction batteries. According to Teslarati, the malfunctions can be largely tracked down to Model S and X vehicles produced in 2018 and 2019.
At least 122 owners have reported sudden drops in power supply when driving. When driving on highways, some users have noticed their remaining range shrink abruptly without any indications as to the reasons.
Tesla has addressed some of the complaints and carried out repairs on some of the affected EVs, but many drivers said it did not resolve their issue. Some have reported getting used batteries as a replacement for almost new ones, while others had to wait months on end for spare parts to arrive and the service to be performed.
Taiwan authorities have called upon Tesla to get all the issues sorted out as soon as possible, as they represented road safety risks. This may lead to a recall campaign and force Tesla service centers to provide the affected drivers with replacement cars for the duration of the maintenance. They may also be obligated to install new replacement batteries instead of used.
