Video: Tesla Model S Plaid doesn’t mind running around in full plate armor

Even production EVs can be phenomenally fast in a straight line, as the tri-motor Tesla Model S Plaid has proven with its 1,020 PS (1,006 hp / 750 kW). Still, we all know EVs need that power to compensate for their sheer weight, so what if we added more of that? According to Armormax, the difference would be negligible.

The armored vehicle specialist upgraded a stock Model S Plaid with thick bulletproof glass, assorted braces and other reinforcements, and armored body panels. The car still manages to look stock on the outside, but swing the door open, and you will see just how massive the glass is.

In the end, the liftback has gained around 136 kilos (300 pounds) over stock and now tips the scales at 2,189 kg (4,826 lbs). Ben Hardy put it to a thorough track test and concluded that it was every bit as fast as ever.

According to Armormax, similar armoring costs around $60,000 USD to carry out.
