Around a year ago, Unplugged Performance produced a hill climb version of the 750-kW Tesla Model S Plaid super sedan and sent it to conquer the Pikes Peak track with Randy Pobst behind the wheel. The second attempt is coming soon with a much-improved car.
The EV tuner only had a few weeks to work on the car before the race last year, since it shipped a bit late. Now that it has a serious aerodynamic kit at its disposal, the odds of success should skyrocket.
Included in the kit are a giant front splitter now lacking visible supports, widened wheel arches and side skirts, and a downright colossal rear wing almost level with the roof. Rounding off the image is a new rear diffuser, also said to improve downforce and optimize airflow.
Elsewhere, the battery sedan takes advantage of upgraded suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes and forged wheels – but it’s nothing we haven’t seen already.
In case you forgot, the UP Model S Plaid APEX finished 10th in the last year’s competition, coming to the top in 6 minutes 57.22 seconds. The track length was reduced back then due to dangerous icing near the top of the mountain.
