It is no one’s secret anymore that the Tesla Model S Plaid can hold its own against some of the best supercars out there, let alone lesser performance cars. This video teaches us another lesson: specifically, that you should at least try to compete when challenged, something the participants clearly forgot about.
The drag races were held between a Model S Plaid and two high-end U.S.-made muscle cars. The first run was attempted by a previous-gen Mustang GT500 equipped with massive drag tires on the rear axle. You would think this would give the driver a serious advantage – and you would be right, as he nails the start and pulls ahead of the Tesla, which looks like it may have slept through the start. Then everything falls apart when the GT500 has to step into second gear.
The other race sees the electric track projectile go up against a Charger Hellcat. This one has what is probably the best tires for the job on the rear axle, bar none. However, being of a Formula design, they enjoy all the traction of a wet soap bar on a treadmill until properly pre-warmed. Care to guess if the driver remembered to do things properly? Straight off the line, Tesla zaps off and disappears into the distance, with the Hellcat trailing it miserably by around four seconds.
Someone among the commenters said the Model S Plaid must be so formidable, its opponents lose the ability to think straight. Would you be willing to buy this explanation, or do you have a better one?
