Starting with an update in 2021, all flagship Tesla cars came equipped with a yoke-shaped steering wheel instead of the conventional round wheel. CEO Elon Musk said the company would never backtrack on this decision, but you can load up the Configurator app on the Tesla website and see for yourself that the option is there again.
Commenting on the switch from the wheel to the racing yoke, Musk reasoned that it resulted in better visibility and enabled replacing the paddle shifters with sensor buttons on the wheel. For their own part, however, the drivers kept complaining that the yoke made U-turns in tight spaces way too difficult to pull off and increased the risk of accidents in situations when fast and precise steering was essential.
In addition to the return of the wheel, all top-of-the-line Teslas will soon ship with a swiveling infotainment touchscreen that you can turn to face the driver or the front passenger (watch the video for details).
