Due to the decision of Tesla to stop producing any more Model S or Model X cars with the steering wheel on the right-hand side, some customers in the UK who placed their reservations many months ago withdrew their orders.
The automaker is offering three years of free use on its Supercharger network to all buyers of left-hand-drive (LHD) cars in countries with left-hand traffic, such as the United Kingdom. Tesla announced its plans to ditch the RHD car production on May 12 this year, quoting logistics and production issues. The decision caused a squall of negative feedback across the company’s social media and led many to cancel their orders despite the promised free charging.
In the coming month, Tesla will be organizing a series of LHD test drives for its customers in London. However, many people are categorically opposed to the idea of driving such a car in a country where it can be dangerous. Dealerships selling used Tesla EVs seem to support the sentiment, saying that LHD vehicles have always made a tough sell in the UK.
