Stolen Tesla Model S chomps through its entire battery in 12 miles

A funny incident occurred in Los Angeles the other day. Susan Hirasuna, FOX 11 anchor, had her Tesla Model S liftback stolen from a parking lot in Los Angeles. A chase ensued, and the car as quickly recovered – for an admittedly embarrassing reason.

The thieves made away with the EV while the news host was shopping. She reported it to the police at once along with the coordinates of the car from her phone app.

The police went on a chase, but it wasn’t much of one, as the car was found abandoned approximately 12 miles (20 km) away from the spot, its battery empty. It’s unclear how much juice it had in its battery, but driving any EV at a high speed is known to be extremely power-consuming.

There was one rather grim little detail in the incident. Once the hijacker was detained, a police officer discovered a bloodied axe in the car. It is still unknown what its purpose was and what the bloodstains were from.
