All Tesla Model S Plaid saloons assembled since April 1, 2024 benefit from a revised sport seat design. Owners of existing Plaid EVs may request their installation at a premium.
Compared to the old design, the new seats offer integrated headrests and enhanced lateral support. They also flaunt carbon fiber applications and Alcantara inserts that should help keep you comfortably in place even if are wearing slippery racing overalls.
The company promises that, despite being clearly more track-oriented, these seats are every bit as comfortable as the old ones. They come with heating, ventilation and 12-way power adjustments features.
Tesla explains that it decided to improve the seats in the Model S Plaid lineup after receiving extensive customer feedback. Some drivers weren’t satisfied with how the limited lateral supports performed at higher speeds. For a car capable of 1,020 PS (1,006 hp / 750 kW) that can zap from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in two seconds flat and run a quarter-mile in 9.23 seconds, a tighter sitting position would be better.
It is still unknown whether the Model X Plais lineup will be getting a similar upgrade. The price of installing the option on the existing Model S is also pending. A new three-motor sedan costs from $89,990 in the United States.
