Tesla introduces Model S breakdown vans in Great Britain

The U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is well-known for the efforts it puts into minimizing third-party involvement in its business. In a recent example, the company has retrofitted 21 Model S liftbacks to use as emergency service vehicles on the roads throughout Great Britain.

The vehicles will provide on-the-fly repair services all across the country and also supply Tesla service stations with the necessary tools and spare parts. Each special Model S vehicle comes equipped with a power tool charger, a compressor and – perhaps not least importantly – an espresso machine. It also features a drawer rack full of spare parts and car repair tools where the back seat row used to be.

In accordance with Tesla’s repair and maintenance policy, a mobile repair brigade must arrive on the spot within three days of receiving the request. The driver doesn’t have to spend all that time sitting next to their broken car, though, since maintenance access to Model S vehicles can be granted remotely.

The electric liftback exists in three versions: P100D, 100D, and 75D, the numbers in each case corresponding to that vehicle’s battery capacity (75 to 100 kWh). The top-end model comes with a drivetrain which produces up to 762 hp (568 kW).
