The famous EV maker Tesla Motors has built a custom Model S-based racecar that will enter the Electric GT one-design race manned by the SPV Racing team. The premiere took place in Barcelona, Spain.
It bears mentioning that Tesla has postponed the event more than once. Initially planned for 2017, it is currently expected to commence in late 2018.
The race will be attended by lightweight Model S P100D vehicles capable of temporarily switching their engines to the tell-tale “Ludicrous+” performance mode. Featuring part-carbon bodies and minimal interior equipment, they are around 500 kg (1,100 lb) lighter than their mass-produced counterparts and accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in trifling 2.1 seconds.
The main Tesla Model S P100D series takes 0.2 seconds longer to accelerate, comes equipped with 700 hp / 522 strong electric engines and hits the artificial speed ceiling at 250 km/h (155 mph).
