Tesla Model Y gets a third seat row in 4Q 2020

The Tesla Model Y SUV had initially been designed as a seven-seater, but five-seater is the only version available right now. In today’s tweet, Elon Musk finally confirmed that a larger Model Y is coming.

Without posting any photos or sketches of the new cabin, Musk said that the more family-friendly SUV would hit the showrooms in the beginning of the year’s fourth quarter.

The announcement raises a few questions regarding the size of the car under development. The standard Model Y has too little trunk space to sacrifice for a third row of seats, so its layout remains a mystery. One guess states that it may receive children’s seats installed backwards – Tesla used to offer these as a paid option for the Model S liftback, but later removed it from the catalog.
