Rumored: Tesla Model Y Super Long Range with NEDC-rated 400 miles

The Driven claims that Tesla may be working on a new modification of the Model Y SUV, focusing on extending its driving range by installing a larger battery.

The car is purportedly called Super Long Range, and should join the current Performance and Long Range versions when it comes to the market.

It should be noted that Tesla already outperforms most of the competition with its range potential, but the company remains dedicated to improving its models on both the hardware and the software level.

The rumor stems from a patent application in China that Tesla submitted not long ago. The patent claim lists five new versions of its current models chiefly characterized by larger traction batteries installed. The two entry-level specs listed make do with 60-kWh batteries while the three top specs benefit from 76.8 and 78.4 kilowatt-hours of power storage. The production will take place in Shanghai.

It would seem that the alleged Super Long Range is one of these unnamed cars mentioned in the patent application. The Driven says it should get around 640 kilometers (400 miles) of range according to the outdated NEDC measurement standard, or around 584 km (363 miles) according to WLTP.
