Elon Musk threw a big party in Grünheide Municipality, Germany, to celebrate the launch of his fourth Gigafactory this weekend. Here is what Tesla’s first full-fledged production site in Europe will be doing in the coming years.
First and foremost, it will assemble Model Y SUVs, with first cars set to ship before Christmas time. By the end of 2022, it will be producing up to 10,000 EVs per week.
Aside from cars, the Gigafactory 4 will be making battery cells of an innovative 4680 format factor, which promise further reductions in weight and improvements in range.
Finally yet importantly, the Berlin-spec Model Y will get a major update soon, which will bring along adaptive LED headlights, among other things.
