Entry-spec Tesla Model Y goes on sale in Europe

Tesla EV configurators in Europe have started offering a new modification of the Model Y that costs up to €16,000 less than the next spec in the list in some countries, depending on applicable incentives.

In Germany, for example, the new Standard Range spec starts from €54,000, while the Long Spec starts from €57,000. Things get much more interesting in Netherlands, where the SR starts from just €50,000 and the LR from €66,000.

In this version, the SUV comes equipped with a single electric motor and offers up to 430 kilometers (267 miles) of range on a charge. The top speed is identical to that of the Long Range spec at 217 km/h (135 mph). On the downside, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) rather sluggishly, succeeding in 6.9 seconds as opposed to the 5 seconds in the LR version.

The introduction of the affordable Model Y made it cheaper in some countries than the Model 3 sedan, but you may want to hurry with the pre-order, because Tesla specifies a rather narrow shipping window: from December 2022 until February 2023.

The single-motor Model Y used to be available in the USA, but the company pulled it from the market after several months of sales. It remains available in China, though.
