Reports: 2024 Tesla Model Y facelift is in the works

Tesla has launched a mysteriously named Project Juniper, which Reuters believes is dedicated to a large-scale upgrade of the company’s Model Y. Inside sources claiming the knowledge of the company’s intentions are saying that the new battery SUV will go on sale next year.

Per Reuters, what largely prompted the automaker to begin working on such a major update was the stiffening competition on the EV market, especially in China, which remains Tesla’s second most crucial market worldwide after the USA. A facelift should enable the dated Model Y to remain relevant for another few years.

Nothing is known about the scope of changes planned. In all likelihood, the update will follow the same course as in the Model 3: the construction will be optimized and the manufacturing costs will be reduced at the same time.

Per the insider, the Project Juniper is set for completion in October 2024, and if everything goes according to plan, the refreshed Model Y will debut in the same month. The updated Model 3 is slated to arrive a year earlier than that.
