One could hardly call the Dodge Durango a direct competitor of the Tesla Model Y, but YouTuber Edmunds still decided to see how the two would line up at the drag strip.
In its SRT Hellcat spec, the Durango relies on a 6.2-liter V8 for propulsion. In turn, the Model Y Performance utilizes a dual-motor electric powertrain. Both are AWD.
The gas-powered SUV pumps out a healthy 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also tips the scales at over 2.5 metric tons, or 5,500 pounds. The Tesla SUV is the lighter of the two, but also makes do with just 456 PS (450 hp / 331 kW).
To demonstrate both cars in action as well as possible, the Edmunds team did a U-drag race instead of a common quarter-mile race. This means that both participants accelerated on a 402-meter-long strip, turned around and sprinted back.
