Tesla EV batteries last about the same regardless of charging power, study finds

Recurrent Auto has conducted a study to find out how big of an effect rapid charging may have on the longevity of Tesla car batteries. The researchers were surprised to find that there was virtually no real-world difference from preferring slow chargers over fast ones.

The study encompassed over 12,500 Tesla EVs used all around the United States. The participants were divided into two groups: one chose fast charging stations 90% of the time and the other one preferred slower, less powerful charging sources 90% of the time.

The data received from studying 4,400 Model Y SUVs over a period of 1,000 days has shown that their battery capacity had degraded by about 10% regardless of the charger type used. Things looked exactly the same for the Model 3.
