EV sales double in Europe

Out of nearly 900,000 vehicles sold in Europe last month, around 196,000 were electric, JATO Dynamics reports. The growth compared to August 2022 amounted to 102%, with the Tesla Model Y confidently leading the charts and shaping up as this year’s absolute bestseller.

In some countries, the figures are even more impressive than the pan-European average. For one, Belgium has boosted its EV sales by 224% year-on-year, followed by Greece (+183%) and Portugal (+164%). Germany remains the biggest market in demand for EVs with 44% of the buyers opting for this eco-friendly type of personal transports.

Tesla Inc. has also had a productive year, bolstering the demand for its Model Y and Model 3 in Europe by 208 and 307%, respectively. Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 landed on the third and fourth places with a growth of 150% or so. The China-made MG MG4 invaded the top-10 and immediately landed on the sixth position in the ranking. Still, with the Tesla Model Y being in this much of a lead, JATO Dynamics fully expects it to dominate the Old World markets by the end of the year.

Sorted by manufacturer, EVs from Volkswagen, Toyota and BMW are the most prominently featured in the rating.
