EV sales soar to an all-time high in America, data indicates

The United States are well underway to passing the psychological barrier of 1,000,000 electric vehicles sold in the country in 2023, Associated Press reports. Even with the recent market slowdown, most data sources suggest that the year will close with a record 1.3–1.4 million units sold.

If it proves true, electrified transports will claim a 9% share of the North American market, setting another historical precedent. Most analysts tend to agree that Tesla is to thank for the trend, even if for the wrong reasons. The company has essentially launched price wars by aggressively undercutting other EV makers, and made this kind of transports more available for everyone. State and dealership subsidies have helped, too.

Even so, North America is lagging behind other countries in terms of EV adoption rates. For instance, battery vehicles account for 33% of the market in China and 90% in Norway.

The same upward trend is being observed in Europe right now. The Tesla Model Y in particular has sold exceptionally well in the Old World countries in January-September, nearly reaching the popularity of the Dacia Sandero – the single best-selling car in Europe.
