California police dissatisfied with Tesla patrol EVs

Not long ago, the police in California received a number of Tesla Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles to its fleet for testing purposes. A study has now been conducted according to which the experiment was not a success.

Most of the officers said the interiors of these cars had occasionally proven too cramped to fit two detainees. Every such car is supposed to have a weapon rack on board, an ammo case and a rack for bulletproof vests. The remaining space at the rear end is not always enough to sit two.

Some also complained that the Tesla electronic assists were too intrusive and fussy sometimes. Others pointed out modest off-road credentials, and most agreed that the charging infrastructure left much to be desired.

All officers polled said they would rather drive a Ford F-150 truck than a Tesla.
