Tesla has unveiled the new Model Y Performance for Europe. It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and starts from €61,990 in Germany, a €9,000 premium over the Long Range spec.
Armed with dual e-motors producing a combined 466 PS (460 hp / 343 kW), the Performance version promises to be more dynamic than its standard counterpart. Rumors claim that the U.S. variant will be even better equipped with 517 PS (510 hp / 380 kW), but this remains to be confirmed.
Despite being stronger on paper, the new Model Y is still a slower sprinter compared to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and to Tesla’s own Model 3 Performance sedan. It also comes capped at 250 km/h (155 mph). An improved battery delivers it 580 km (360 miles) of WLTP range, and charging for 15 minutes can replenish around 240 km (150 miles) worth of charge.
To support the added power and torque, the SUV ships with a tuned adaptive suspension and a torque control feature that prioritizes the rear axle by default. It also rocks a carbon-fiber body kit and can be optioned with special 21-inch wheels.
Some improvements were made to the interior as well. For one, the seats now have integrated headrests and better lumbar support. For another, the infotainment system uses a larger 16-inch display and is plugged into a 15-speaker audio system complete with a subwoofer.
