An aged Tesla Roadster hits $0.25M at auction

A U.S.-based Tesla dealer and maintenance center just received a quarter of a million dollars for a 14-year-old Roadster model with 840 miles (1,351 km) under its belt. Not only did the car set a price record, it also exceeded the expected MSRP of the second-gen Roadster.

The previous high was $190,000. Used Tesla Roadsters tend to retail for $50,000 – $70,000, with outliers occasionally hitting $120,000 – $180,000.

Tesla produced the first-gen Roadster in 2008 through 2012, making 2,400 units in total. The car packed a single electric motor worth 251 PS (248 hp / 185 kW) and needed 3.7 seconds for a launch to highway speed. It maxes out at 201 km/h (125 mph) and offered 393 km (244 miles) of driving range on a charge.

The same seller is now looking to cash in on more Roadsters, offering one 2010MY example for $330,000.
