Tesla Roadster postponed again, but the company says it’s OK

Electric carmaker Tesla has postponed the production start of its Roadster model for yet another time since its original debut in 2017. Speaking at a shareholder meeting, CEO Elon Musk said he ‘hoped’ to be able to begin deliveries in 2024, Autoevolution reports.

He added that the Roadster was actually still at its development stage, and that releasing a supercar like that was not that high on the marque’s list of priorities.

Despite its intended status as Tesla’s ultimate technological flagship, the Roadster is way too niche of a model to produce right now, Musk argued. For the time being, the company would be better off expanding its mass-market EV production capacities further to meet the growing demand.

Tesla’s plans for the next few years involve facelifting the Models 3 and Y and releasing the long-anticipated Cybertruck.
