Elon Musk, head of the North American Tesla Motors, has said earlier today that a performance kit for the new Roadster is in the works that would make it even faster.
He teased that the vehicle the company had revealed earlier had been nothing but a base, entry-level model of the Roadster. “It’s going to have a SpaceX option package,” he said. “It’s crazy.” Note the naming, once again.
He went on to add that the main goal of the vehicle is to surpass all gasoline-powered vehicles in existence in all imaginable respects. In other words, the upcoming Tesla Roadster SpaceX should become the fastest and the strongest the Earth has known to date.
The original Tesla Roadster debuted in spring 2017 with three electric engines producing some vertiginous 10,000 Nm (7,450 lb·ft) of torque and a 250 kWh battery to enable it to travel at least 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) on a single charge.
Tesla has earlier reported their Roadster could accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than 2 seconds and score 160 km/h (100 mph) in another two. It could also ultimately reach 400 km/h (250 mph) – that’s almost a half of the cruise speed of an airborne Boeing 747.
Mass production of the Tesla Roadster series should begin in two years. Each vehicle is going to be priced at $200,000 and above.
