In the latest video posted by Tesla, its upcoming Semi truck runs lap after lap on a test track, missing a trailer and possibly powered by new 4680-type batteries.
The concept car debuted in the fall of 2017, and while the sales had been initially planned for 2019, the latest official estimate is for ‘late 2021’.
Elon Musk used to claim that the Tesla Semi would be able to cover 500 miles (804 km) on a single charge and tow a trailer weighing up to 80,000 lbs (36 metric tons). He also said it would sprint to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in mere 20 seconds when fully loaded, and ascend 5-degree slopes at 65 miles per hour (105 km/h), as opposed to the 45 mph (72 km/h) typical for high-end diesel trucks. The range has been extended to 600 miles (965 km) since then.
