Tesla shareholders had been waiting since 2017 for the company to start producing its electric truck line named Semi, and CEO Elon Musk has just announced… something of that sort, apparently. The phrasing of his Twitter post prevents saying for sure whether the production has already begun or is still pending.
In any case, PepsiCo will be the first company to get its hands on the Semi. Tesla revealed back in 2021 that the first batch of 15 units was presold to PepsiCo. The delivery term is specified as ‘until the end of 2022’, and each truck falls under a $40,000 tax deduction.
In his tweet, Musk reminded everyone once again that the Semi could run up to 500 miles (805 kilometers) on a single charge. The subscribers showered him with questions straight after the publication, and he hasn’t answered a single one at the time of this writing.
Another important thing that remains a mystery is where the Tesla Semi will be assembled. The prototypes were largely built in Nevada, but it looks like the production truck will be made in Texas.
