In case you missed it, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday that the company’s long-awaited all-electric truck – the Semi – successfully ran 500 miles (805 km) on a single charge when fully loaded.
The deliveries are set to begin next month, and the annual production plans are quite ambitious: Tesla is willing to produce up to 100,000 units as long as there is a demand.
The truck reportedly completed its test drive with 36.7 metric tons (81,000 pounds) of loaded weight. The promised 500-mile range is only available in the $180,000 top spec, though, with the base spec coming in at a $30,000 discount with only 60 percent the range.
When running without a trailer, the Semi needs five seconds to go 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph). A fully loaded trailer lengthens the sprint time to still-impressive 20 seconds.
